Karen Arthur

Karen is a grandmother in her early sixties. A former dance teacher, pastoral leader, fashion designer and model, Karen is an author, broadcaster, menopause diversity campaigner, and founder of Wear Your Happy – conscious clothing choices for better mental wellbeing. 


A content creator and speaker who has been honing her craft for over 40 years, Karen is founder-host of ground-breaking podcast Menopause Whilst Black which champions Black British based menopausal stories now in its ninth season. She created and hosted five star rated The Joy Retreat Barbados, the world’s first retreat designed exclusively for Black women in any stage of menopause. She is the host of bi-weekly radio conversation show ‘Can We Talk’ on Golddust Radio. 


Karen has been featured in Vogue, The Guardian, Times Radio, BBC London Radio, BBC Breakfast, Channel 4’s ‘Sex, Myths and the Menopause’ with Davina McCall and CBC Good mornin’ Barbados. Most recently Karens work was showcased in Good Housekeeping magazine Menopause handbook.


Karen has advocated for diversity in menopause representing in Parliament twice and is now part of The Health Collective with RCOG committed to equity in women’s health care as well as the world’s first National Menopause Education and Support Programme with UCL. Her work on menopause is cited in the British Medical Journal and she is referenced in several books on menopause and celebrating the joy of ageing.


Her childrens book ‘Grandma’s Locs’ is out now with Tate publishing.
